Activities - Walks
We have a selection of walks that can, within the constraints of the relevant risk assessments, be led by visiting staff.
These range from easy downhill walks following the River Wharfe to more strenuous excursions following the Roman road over the shoulder of Buckden Pike.
We are in a particularly beautiful part of the country, and our walks allow students to see what the rural landscape offers. These walks also allow time for reflection in what is often a busy visit - only when we are given time to think can we learn from our experiences.
It is also possible to undertake an instructor led walk, which facilitates excursions over higher summits such as Buckden Pike, Great Whernside or Pen y Ghent. These can provide very rewarding days, with a profound sense of achievement when the summit is reached! All these walks, whether of half - day or full - day duration, also provide great learning opportunities: in relation to rivers studies, geology - especially the limestone environment, and history from the Celts to the lead miners of the 19th Century
